ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Sterling Services LTD., partnered with the Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition (HDFCC) to be a co-sponsor of the 2019 Hamtramck Health Hike. The HDFCC is a community initiative committed to reducing and preventing substance abuse among youths in Hamtramck.

The Health Hike, Saturday, May 4, 2019 is an event created by former VISTA workers at the Piast Institute and HDFCC. The event is a way for adolescents and young in Hamtracmk to get up in the morning, get healthy, and commit to a drug free lifestyle. Over the years the event has evolved, in part to their volunteers and sponsors, whom help provide free basic health screening, t-shirts, lunch, and many other activities promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“The Hamtramck Health Hike is truly a community event put on by wonderful sponsors and volunteers for the benefit of all,” Malgorzata Tulecki, Executive Director of the Piast Institute said. “We’ve had so many youths coming back year after year to do this 5K and each time they take away a message of better living, nutrition, drug free lifestyles, health screenings, all while having a great time.”

Sterling is a company that stresses healthy lifestyle and supporting an event like the Health Hike is just another way for the company to give back to the community.

“I live a healthy lifestyle, so helping the Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition with an event like this fits with our company,” Jason Eddleston, Vice President of Operations at Sterling said. “We live in a time where you need to be aware about what you put in your body and how to take care of it. This event gives us an opportunity to partner with HDFCC as well as our cities influential youth groups to show them and teach them how to stay healthy within their lives. The Health Hike promotes those core values with the annual 5K and the commitment to a healthy lifestyle which is why I believe this event is perfect for the Hamtramck community.”
