HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Sterling Services LTD., is set to attend the three-day 2019 Michigan Rail Conference hosted at the Henry Center at Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich. from August 7 – 9.

“With our facility being on the rail line in Hamtramck and us having two spurs,” Jason Eddleston, VP of Operations at Sterling Oil and Chemical said. “It is important to attend these conferences to stay current on the industry. In recent years, our company has moved a fair amount of product via rail. This conference tends to give us a place to network, meet potential clients, and talk to industry professionals.”

Over the last year, Sterling Services has increased their rail spots by 15 percent as they sit on the Canadian National rail line between Detroit, Mich. and Pontiac, Mich. This increase creates more opportunity to capture new business, which they harvest through connections made at the rail conference. The conference helps the executive team identify new business, connect Sterling with other rail lines, and creates great networking opportunities.

Ronald Berry of the Federal Railroad Administration is going to be the keynote speaker while Derek Taylor, Vice President Southern Region at Canadian National will open the conference. The conference will include breakout sessions covering new technology in rail, crossing safety, railway suppliers, passenger system, and international connections.

“As conference co-chairs, Nick and I believe that our theme, Think Global, Act Local, reflects current business realities and potential economic impacts,” Nikkie Johnson, co-chair for the MRC said. “Rail transportation, both freight and passenger is a complex network and extends far beyond the state of Michigan, yet within the state, we seek to grow our economy and improve mobility with leading-edge rail facilities and services.”

The Michigan Rail Conference is hosted by Michigan Technological University’s Rail Transportation Program, the Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan State University, Michigan Railroads Association, and other industry partners.
